Ideal staff for an AJSS Summer of Service are individuals with a desire to spend their time improving the lives of both the participants who come on AJSS as well as the community AJSS interacts with. This is a great position for those with experiences leading programs for teens and community service who are looking to simultaneously create a community of participants while at the same time helping to improve a community in the United States. Leading an AJSS summer can be as meaningful and transformative experience for the staff as it is for our volunteers and the community AJSS serves.

The staff is responsible for leading, teaching and serving as role models for up to 16 co-ed high school students. The staff lives on-site with the group. This is a fairly intensive position requiring high energy and organization. Each project is led by a senior project director along with 3 other staff. A total of four adults staff each trip.

AJSS Summer projects are pluralistic Jewish communities with participants from across the spectrum of Jewish knowledge and practice. During the summer the AJSS group lives together, works five days a week, explores the surrounding area, creates its own Shabbat experiences and other Jewish practices and examines these experiences at they relate to core Jewish values.

Potential staff must be a minimum of 21 years of age by the departure date to staff an AJSS Summer of Service.
